Sunday, July 13th - Psalm 27

Prepare To Receive the Word:

Pray: For the Lord to speak through his word. For your pastor as he prepares to preach. For your heart to receive the word with gladness. For the Holy Spirit to guide you in the truth. For your church family as they prepare to worship together. For God to magnify his glory in the gospel of Jesus Christ. For God to bring non-believers to faith and believers to maturity.

Read: Read the passage. Take note of any repeated words or phrases. Mark any questions you have. What immediately stands out? What encourages you? What seems hard to understand?

Process The Word:

Pray: For the Lord to help you understand, love, and apply the truth from his word

Read: Read Psalm 27 and related passages (John 8:12, 1 Peter 1:3-7, Romans 8:31-39)

Listen: Listen to the sermon (preferably in person at church, or on the podcast if you are unable to join us).

Discuss:

1) Have you ever noticed a strange confidence in Christians? Give some examples

2) What is the confidence of God’s people? How is this different from self-confidence?

3) How is the Lord the “light, salvation, and stronghold” of his people? How have you experienced this in your own life?

4) Do you share David’s desire expressed in verse 4? How do you seek the Lord (v. 8)? What seems to get in the way?

5) What is the believer’s hope? How is this different from “wishful thinking” or “optimism?”

6) How does our certain hope inspire confidence in every circumstance?

7) How does this Psalm point us to Christ? Think through each point (Confidence IN God, Desire FOR God, Hope FROM God) What does it look like for you practically to “wait on the Lord” (v. 14)
