Sunday, June 29th - Psalm 25

Prepare To Receive the Word:

Pray: For the Lord to speak through his word. For your pastor as he prepares to preach. For your heart to receive the word with gladness. For the Holy Spirit to guide you in the truth. For your church family as they prepare to worship together. For God to magnify his glory in the gospel of Jesus Christ. For God to bring non-believers to faith and believers to maturity.

Read: Read the passage. Take note of any repeated words or phrases. Mark any questions you have. What immediately stands out? What encourages you? What seems hard to understand?

Process The Word:

Pray: For the Lord to help you understand, love, and apply the truth from his word

Read: Read Psalm 25 and related passages (Exodus 34:6-7, 2 Corinthians 1:3-7)

Listen: Listen to the sermon (preferably in person at church, or on the podcast if you are unable to join us).

Discuss:

1) We began by discussing 4 ways people tend to respond to affliction: Looking to a different day, distraction, determination, and defeat. Which Is your typical response? Why is dependence a better way?

2) David cries out for many reasons - physical protection, emotional comfort, spiritual direction, and forgiveness. Which do you feel that you need most right now? Has there ever been a time when you cried out to the Lord for any of these reasons?

3) How do Christians receive guidance from the Lord? How do we “walk in his ways"?”

4) What is God’s will of decree? God’s will of desire? How does this help us when seeking his will for a decision we need to make?

5) Why does God’s character matter for our prayers? Do we tend to anchor our prayers in his character?

6) Why does God’s covenant matter for our prayers? Why does our status of being "in the new covenant” matter for our prayers?

7) Do we pray often for one another? How can we grow in this discipline?
