Sunday, July 27th - Psalm 29

Prepare To Receive the Word:

Pray: For the Lord to speak through his word. For your pastor as he prepares to preach. For your heart to receive the word with gladness. For the Holy Spirit to guide you in the truth. For your church family as they prepare to worship together. For God to magnify his glory in the gospel of Jesus Christ. For God to bring non-believers to faith and believers to maturity.

Read: Read the passage. Take note of any repeated words or phrases. Mark any questions you have. What immediately stands out? What encourages you? What seems hard to understand?

Process The Word:

Pray: For the Lord to help you understand, love, and apply the truth from his word

Read: Read Psalm 29 and related passages (Genesis 6:1-8:5, Hebrews 3:12-15, Ezekiel 37; 2 Peter 3:5-7)

Listen: Listen to the sermon (preferably in person at church, or on the podcast if you are unable to join us).

Discuss:

1) How does understanding context help you better understand the Psalms? How do we get the context for this Psalm?

2) What does it mean to “ascribe to the Lord glory?” What does this look like practically in your life?

3) How does “ascribing to the Lord glory” help squash rebellion in your heart?

4) David reflects on the power of the voice of the Lord. How is his voice powerful? What has his voice accomplished?

5) How does “heeding his voice” help squash rebellion? What are some ways we can grow in heeding his voice?

6) What are some of the blessings of submitting to the Lord as King? Why is it futile to seek these anywhere else?

7) How does this Psalm find it’s fulfillment in Christ?
