Sunday, June 22nd - Psalm 24

Prepare To Receive the Word:

Pray: For the Lord to speak through his word. For your pastor as he prepares to preach. For your heart to receive the word with gladness. For the Holy Spirit to guide you in the truth. For your church family as they prepare to worship together. For God to magnify his glory in the gospel of Jesus Christ. For God to bring non-believers to faith and believers to maturity.

Read: Read the passage. Take note of any repeated words or phrases. Mark any questions you have. What immediately stands out? What encourages you? What seems hard to understand?

Process The Word:

Pray: For the Lord to help you understand, love, and apply the truth from his word

Read: Read Psalm 24 and related passages (2 Samuel 6, Psalm 15, John 3:13, 20:17-18)

Listen: Listen to the sermon (preferably in person at church, or on the podcast if you are unable to join us).

Discuss:

1) Why is God’s glory reason for both awe and fear?

2) Do you tend to live with an “ownership” or a “stewardship” mentality? What part(s) of your life do you cling tightly to as “yours?”

3) Think of the story of the ark coming into Jerusalem. What does this teach us about the danger of sinners being in the presence of a holy God?

4) Think through the qualifications David lists in verse 4. How do you stack up? Can anyone ascend the hill?

5) David says those who “seek the face of the God of Jacob” will be righteous. Most religions believe “those who are righteous (enough) will see his face.” What’s the difference? What does it mean to seek his face? Where do we go/look to seek his face?

6) How is God’s glory reason for sinners to hope? What is the Christian’s ultimate hope?

7) How is Jesus the “king of glory?” How does this Psalm point us to him?
